Good girl gone bad.........at least an attempt

Here are some photos of Emma Watson for ELLE magazine.

To be perfectly honest, I do not buy Emma Watson as a rock chick but she does look pretty hot. The outfits are really cool, reminiscent of Joan Jett, very 80's - Kudos to the stylist. The second picture reminds me of an outfit Thierry Mugler designed for Beyonce. Miss Watson is all over the place these days, it is probably because Harry Potter is coming out soon. I am rather excited!

I can SEE THROUGH you........and I like it

So I adore sequins, I make no secret of that but there are other things I adore just as much. For example sheer/transparent designs like the Alexander Wang dress above.

This is the same dress on the hot screen star of the moment Megan Fox. This is one of my favourite sheer dresses because it is right on the border of le risqué. It just about covers the right parts, and hints to the existence of the wrong parts. I mean it is long-sleeved.

This is not on the border of anything, it is firmly in the centre of the land of le risqué. It is very daring, you would only be able to pull this off is if your body is in mint condition.

The lady on the left (ex-supermodel extraordinaire Eva Hervigova) looks really sexy, it is just as see through as Kate Moss' dress but a lot more classy. It is just as daring but a touch more refined. It must be the frill and lace detail.

These 2 dresses are very similar in style. They are both body-con dresses and have a sheer panel on the chest area. I think the sheer panel adds a touch of sexy. Megan Fox's dress has a bit of a plunging neckline which makes it that much more........provocative.

Claudia Schiffer's dress is pretty tame not to imply boring. It is demure but sexy even though the bottom half of her dress is see through.

3 Sheers for everyone! Get it?!

Still on the BET awards

This was probably my favourite outfit of the evening. Very minimalist, futurist and extremely unique. Perfect.

BET on sequins

I love sequins - fact. But I am not alone in this adoration. I was browsing through some of the red carpet photos from the BET awards and to my delight I was almost blinded because there were a lot of sequin wearers. I think it is safe to say that they were quite the red-carpet trend.

I liked the mix and use of geometric patterns on her bandeau dress, it is similar Nigerian Ankara fabric but an updated version. The style of the dress is not particularly original but the patterns and the use of sequins make the dress exciting. Miss Hilson indeed 'knocked me down' with this outfit.

The use of sparkles here has more of a middle eastern influence, they are also patterned in geometric shapes.

This is probably one of the most beautiful sequined dresses I have seen in my life. No exaggeration! This has an 80's, perhaps vintage vibe to it. The combination of forest imagery, sparkles and purple hues make the dress look alive. This "diva" with a big "ego" is certainly making "single ladies" jealous and I am sure married ones as well. ;-)

Sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll, mud......?!

It is music festival season in Europe, the biggesst of them all is Glastonbury. They have quite the line-up this year which includes everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Q-Tip. It is one of those festivals that has something for everyone. Apart from the music, one thing glasto offers is mud. It rains quite a bit therefore boots aren't just a fashionable item but a necessity.

I am kind of cheating because this picture is from last year but I have been dying to show it. Alexa Chung looks phenomenal. The knee high socks are sexy, the shorts are equally sexy. The vertically striped top gives a nautical feeling. However the pièce de résistance is the biker leather jacket. Her look is messy but in a good way.

What a cute floral summer dress, this is an entirely different look, it is not grundgy or edgy, but it works just as well.

Damon Albarn, the voice behind the Gorrilaz and the former lead singer of Blur. Blur was rather massive in the 90's and they have reunited just for Glastonbury.

Katie White of the Ting Tings gets brownie points not just because she can play the electric guitar, but primarily because she is wearing sequins.

Miss Allen certainly has a sense of humour, her outfits are very Lady Gaga-esque.

Lady gaga looks so striking in this dress. The dress incorporates curves as well as geometric shapes. I love it so much because it has lots of shiny squares. Very futuristic! As they say, "ain't nothing like the real thing"

Model of the moment Daisy Lowe looks like a Navajo American Indian tribe member in her outfit. The tasseled skirt and the her messenger bag are really central to the look. Pocahontas anyone?

I think if you can you should go to a music festival once in your life. If you are daunted they always sell day tickets, or try going to the smaller ones. If you go with some like-minded buddies they are a whole load of fun.

Icons

And of course not to forget......

SupaDupa Model

Agyness Deyn, Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Gisele Bundchen, Doutzen Kroes, Lily Cole, Daisy Lowe, Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova, Daria Werbowy, Irina Lazreneau, Liya Kebede, Lily Donaldson…………… I think you catch my drift at least I hope you do.

All the names above belong to prominent models, I think it is fair to say that the era of the supermodel is well and truly over. This post is going to be a bit of a history lesson, an incey wincey homage to the supermodels of the past.

This is by no means an exhaustive list.

One thing I am sure you will notice is how much time has been kind to them. No sags, lumps, lines, creases or wrinkles. I am happy they still look beautiful but also sad they look beautiful because it is not fair, GEEZ!

Strictly, Miss Harlow is not a supermodel of the past, she is still working. She is very much the darling of the designers Viktor and Rolf. She is also a firm favourite of the label Chloe. This picture is pretty recent and guess what she is 38.

This stunner – Miss Valletta is best friends with the model above Miss Harlow. Valletta left the industry (on a high) for acting. You can see her in the movies Hitch and erm……..Transporter 2. Nonetheless she still dabbles on the catwalk, particularly for Stella McCartney. She is also in her late 30’s and has kids. Envy.

Yasmin LeBon’s last name means ‘the good’ in French, which couldn’t be more appropriate. She was a pretty fierce model and has done the most Elle front covers in history.

No matter what people write about her in the press, no matter how many people she attacks, no matter how many chemical substances she consumes she still gets lucrative campaigns – namely D&G, Louis Vuitton, ahem Tesco, Pinko.

It is only logical to sparkle

Neon colours, leggings, Madonna, skinny jeans………. Eighties style has been back for a while now, thankfully just the good parts. Now it seems fashion is dipping a little into the seventies with jumpsuits, impossible platform heels and my personal favourite SEQUINS (and all that is sparkly).

Jumpsuits – yeah they are nice but are not for everyone, especially if you are over an American size 8.

Platform heels – they make your legs look super duper sexy BUT it is bad for your tendons and your back muscles.

But sequins (and shiny stuff) have no limitations except an incey wincey pain of a dry-cleaning bill but they are worth it.

These 2 outfits, although completely different, combine the jumpsuit and sequin trend. Moss wore this for her 30th birthday party themed “the beautiful and the damned” and there is nothing damned about what she is wearing. She wore this in 2004 before sequins crept into our consciousness and it makes her look younger and very playful. Sequined jumpsuits are a hard thing to pull off but it is not impossible.

This exceptional creation from Alexander McQueen is very striking and bold. The style of the dress is not particularly original but the adornment of jewels/glass/ sequins transport the dress to another realm.

Hudson’s dress is a combination of the 80’s and 60’. The style of the dress firmly from the 60’s, it is a shift dress but smothered in sequins. This combo works very well.

If you are a little apprehensive or overwhelmed by sequins you can always have a plain dress with sequin detailing. I like the way Miss Deyn’s dress reflects the light, it almost adds an iridescence. Sequin detailing can be rather subtle if you mix it with plainer less stylized fabrics.

This mix of plain fabric and sequin detail is a popular trend on red carpets. Mdme Cotillard’s dress layers transparent fabric on the sequin detail, which is another way you could reduce the ostentatious nature of sequins.

Go wear some sequins and shine :-)

Deppness

Here are some images from the new Alice in Wonderland film directed by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter and Anne Hathaway

I am a little sad Johnny Depp does not look like himself but nonetheless the portraits are really striking and eerie. Particularly Mr. Depp, he looks like a surrealist figure from a Hieronymous Bosch painting. Very macabre indeed.

First of all her eyebrows are awesome. Kudos to the costume designer and stylist. It is sort of an extreme Alexander McQueen haute couture outfit. Do you think one could get away with wearing their lipstick like that in the real world? It looks good. Perhaps Lady Gaga should try it.

She looks like an angel of light. I hate her blonde but I love her lipstick.

I am eager to see Burton's interpretation when it is released.

"Bling bling money ain't a thang" courtesy of Swarovia

If you didn't know already I am not really an accessories person, I do not really have much of an eye for it and I tend to lose my jewellery, and treat my handbags like a punchbag. However I am trying to cultivate an appreciation for such things. So I was just wasting time browsing the web when I visually stumbled onto this beautiful ring.

It is by Swarovski, it is called the 'sterling ring' the bubble bauble is made from sterling silver. It is priced at about $65 which is not too bad. I like the bubble arrangement and the colour combination. They recently opened a shop in Soho, New York called crystallized concept - customers can design their own jewellery and "sparkle for less"

jenny on my mind..

the cmt awards mean nothing to me personally, however the red carpet turned out some interesting outfits, one of which was worn by one julianne hough, professional dancer and country singer. apparently she's won 'dancing with the stars' twice!!

this gorgeous little dress is by Jenny Packham.
what i really love about it is the beading coupled with the tier effect. it is such an adorable dress!!
anyway, i went on to look at more stuff by the designer.
view, a few pieces from her spring '09 collection:

a similar theme runs through the pieces in the collection. the bright colours make them so fun and flirty and oh so cute.

these ones are a tad too cutesy for my tastes, but they're pretty dresses all the same.
i'd probably pair them with wet-look leggings, stripper-heeled jet black gladiators and a long boyfriend blazer...

Announcement Potter Fans

Burberry - I really hate the brand, it is meant to be this quintessential and classic label. Apart from their trench coats I think it is a pile of manure. Christopher Bailey - the creative director does try to make it haute couture but it is so limited and archaic. However I do love their ad campaigns, they have stuck to their young and British campaign for the past 5 years. Last year, the stunning Agyness Deyn was the face of Burberry, she still is the face of their perfume the beat. It has just been announced that Hermione Granger aka Emma Watson aka young, bright thing is fronting the campaign. The photos were taken by photographer extraordinaire Mario Testino.

The photos are really cool, the composition, the use of really bright lighting in the background, I think it is safe to say Mr. Testino did a great job. But, is it just me or are the trench coats a bit big for the petite Miss Watson.

The fresh faced Miss. Granger is very much the archetypal 'english rose' which is why I don't think she needed the dark and smoky eyes.

This is a personal favourite, they all look like naughty school children. All the male models are rather striking.
