sheer, tiered and bare legged were just a few of the trends on display at the South African Arise Africa fashion week. i'm going to dedicate a few posts to my observations, starting with an ode to the sheer.
South African designer
Heni, Ugandan designer Gloria Wavamunno, Ghanian Ben Nonterrah and Nigerian born Samantha Cole allowed us, well, see
through their creations:
this little summery dress is erm, just a tad risque. i like the flowy style of the dress, but it's not exactly practical. maybe to the beach over a bikini..
we've seen this dress before, but i still like it! the lace adds that feminine effect, and the plunging neckline takes away any likeness the dress might have to a curtain - always a good thing! it's presented with black shoes however, which i do not endorse.
this is one of those pieces i can't really make too much of. i mean, it's turtleneck! no comment! well, except to say i like the fact that its paired with short shorts. that makes it somewhat pardonable.
now this i quite like. it's one of the first few pieces i saw of all the collections showcased at the fashion week that gave the impression that the designer actually tried to go for a high fashion look, as opposed to just presenting pretty dresses. the bow, the dramatic ruffley jacket, the flared sleeve and the pouffy skirt come together just right imo.
