There is, and has been a Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria since 1989. Now i bet you didn't know that. Well the new president of FADAN - as it is called -, is none other than designer Nobel Afrik.
I had the privilege of meeting him approximately a year ago and was pleasantly surprised by his easy going manner, genuine love for dressmaking, and eagerness to share the love for and knowledge of the art, at his self named fashion school in Maryland, Ikeja.
His designs are marked by a celebrated feminity, particular attention to the fit on the female, and he is not afraid to have a little fun while at it!
I stumbled on some of his designs for the Nigerian Fashion Week 2008, and that was exactly what i found.

i love the frills, the retro-style white frames, and particularly like the clash of the manly boots with the sexiness of the outfits.
love the yellow dress styled with the white layered necklace, bangles and shades.
