Fact - Blazers are hotter than the centre of the earth right now, not because I own 3. Well one because it is fashion and one day something is hot and then it is not – it is fickle with no rhyme or reason. But also because of the 80’s revival. The “oversized” type are called boyfriend blazers. These are the most popular and have been burning up the runway for a while.
This is a nice tweed double breasted boyfriend blazer from Alexander Wang that looks really grunge. It is always nice to see these blazers teamed with a short skirt, shorts or super tight trousers as well as chunky shoes.
Here is an entirely different interpretation of the boyfriend blazer. Naturally, the shape and cut is similar but the army green colour and the silk lining of the lapels are different. One thing that links both is the rolled up sleeves which looks very 80’s and retro. I have to say the entire outfit is beautiful and embodies the smart casual dress code.
Another interpretation or more accurately a development of the boyfriend blazer can be seen again from Alexander Wang. He has extended it’s length and covered it in penny size sequins. Genius.
This is very similar to Mr. Wangs piece above. Teamed with a white top and jeans makes it look really casual but playful.
Just to drag you all through memory lane. The blazer above may look like it is from an 09 fall show but it is actually from Stella Maccartney’s show in 2001. Isn’t she so fashion forward? Love the colour of the jacket and the material looks satinesque(not a real word but who cares). I do not think I would wear it with a floor length skirt but I can appreciate the artistic value of the ensemble? I love the jacket though. It is similar to a jacket from the Matthew Williamson’s collection for H&M.
Weirdly enough the Boyfriend Blazer work well when worn with something risqué. I mean look how short Miss Deyn’s dress is? It helps if you have long legs but if not just put on some hooker heels on. Simple.
Style connoisseur and indie queen Chloe Sevigny also teams her tan colour blazer with a matching short skirt and some super high heels. Although her skirt is really short the blazer adds a refinement. She is a major fan of these jackets.
Here again she wears the blazer but looks more like she is dating a lead singer of a band. Obviously it is not just the jacket that is responsible for this Rock Chick look Her hair is tousled and she’s donned a pair of high waisted black jeans with a pair of CHUNKY black boots.
This blazer is made out of brocade and has a shiny finish. Miss Simms has chosen to wear this with cropped trousers. I think she looks good but she would look great if those cropped trousers were cut into shorts.
The lapels are lined with velvet which looks rather vintage.
Here are examples to show you the SHORTER the better. Yes I am slightly obsessed with Leighton Meester. XOXO
So the moral of the story is go get a blazer it goes with everything.
been looking for the perfect black blazer for a while now..cant seem to find anything
ReplyDeleteYou could always buy a men's suit jacket/blazer and roll up the sleeves. It sounds bizarre but most of the blazers are not meant to be form fitting, that's why they call them boyfriend blazer's.
